Ground Penetrating Radar

Our ground penetrating radar services provide the most current technology available for imaging imbedded objects in existing concrete.

Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) is a geophysical method that uses radar pulses to image the subsurface. GPR is nondestructive to the environment, and can be used on a variety of surfaces and materials. GPR can detect objects, voids, and even changes of the material underneath the surface.

This concrete scanning technology is very helpful to find specific elements hidden by concrete such as rebar, structural steel, etc. It should be noted that in some instances where there are several objects occupying the same space, differentiating the objects can provide a false positive. GPR is the most cost effective way of imaging concrete.

If you’re considering the concrete x ray option, we would ask you to consider why we prefer gpr concrete scanning. X ray concrete scanning requires access to both sides of the slab whereas GPR does not. Also, concrete x ray services produce radiation and GPR does not.
